Power Chords Rock

I just got a new gibson les paul as a gift and I need help getting a hardcore sound. Help needed?
I am confused with the 2 volume, 2 tone, 3-way selector switch. I want to make it sound in a rock tone.. I was use to the easy one volume one tone guitar. The 3-way selector is also confusing. I would love to receive any instructions to set up my tones, volumes, and way selector so I can get a hard rock sound for power chords and soloing.
Pedals only synthesize distortion, making it sound like a synthesizer.
If you want real distortion, get a Marshall tube amp. One is demonstrated here, using a Gibson Les Paul. There’s no way to really reproduce this sound without the proper hardware.
